ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Screenwriter says Kang the Conqueror is like an exponential and infinite Thanos

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania there are only a few weeks left and fans are just counting down the days until we find out what major promised ramifications this film will have on the future of the MCU. We have already met the film’s villain, Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majorin the final of Loki Season 1, but we also know that there are several alternate versions of Kang in the comics and we haven’t seen anything yet.

Talking about the character and explaining the difference between him and the last big villain of the MCU, Thanos, the screenwriter of the film, Jeff Loveexplained to SFX Magazine:

“To me it’s all about humanity. Obviously Thanos is an iconic big bad guy, but he’s also a big CGI purple guy. He’s an alien from outer space. The thing I really wanted to lean into is that Kang is a human.”

He went on to add:

“Kang is also a very lonely character. We’ll see a lot of him in a lot of different ways moving forward, but I really wanted to introduce the humanity and even the vulnerability of this character before he gets to such an apocalyptic, Avengers scale heights.”

Kang will appear in the next Avengers movie, The Kang Dynasty, who is also writing Loveness. Currently scheduled for release in 2025, the film is part of Marvel Phase 6, which will bring an end to the epic Multiverse Saga. Loveness went on to talk about the direction of Kang’s character, saying:

“Kang is a top-tier Avengers villain. What do you do when you feel like you’re not enough against that? How do you step forward to meet the challenge of this generation, who is Thanos on an exponential level? He’s almost this infinite Thanos. I think We’re setting things up for a pretty dynamic story. As I’m building Avengers, I want it to feel like a generational struggle. Phase 4 felt like new characters were being born. Giving everyone some breathing room, you’re expanding the universe, you’re having fun with Disney Plus shows elevating the characters we like and throwing them into the fire.”

With all that has been said about this film, I am feeling very nervous for Scott Lang and his cohorts. I can’t wait to see what happens, but I’m preemptively sad about the possible fate of these characters I love so much.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania hits theaters worldwide February 17 and you can buy tickets now.
