Ron Howard tackles the possible sequel to SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY and it’s not up to him

I liked the one from Lucasfilm Solo: A Star Wars Story and I thought so RonHoward Did a great job directing it after the replacement Phil Lord And Chris Miller. After seeing the Star Wars movie, I was excited about the future of the franchise and was completely okay with seeing the story continue. But, after the movie didn’t meet expectations at the box office, Disney changed the future of their movie plans and after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we have yet to see a new Star Wars movie, and as far as I know , there are no plans for a direct sequel to Solo.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ron Howard was asked about a possible sequel and while he’d be OK with it if it happens, he has no say in the decision. He explained:

“I’m not a producer on Solo. I came to support the project and because of my long relationship with George [Lucas]Katie [Kennedy]and Larry Kasdan. So I didn’t even talk about that. One would assume that there are some characters that could go much further, but I’m not sure where Disney+ is going with the Galaxy. These shows are not only important for everyone who works there, but every time they represent a great bet for the company. They make their choices very carefully and want to keep growing and evolving. So I know that’s not really an answer, but there’s a real appetite to understand where Star Wars can take audience members, as well as build on characters and ideas that are already familiar. But there’s a lot of talent in Solo, and whether or not I’m involved, I’d love to see some of those characters again.”

The screenplay for Solo was written by Jonathan Kasdan along with his father Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi), and when Kasdan was asked about a potential Solo sequel in an interview with CBM, he said to be “conflicted” about the idea of making Solo 2:

“Yeah, you know, I’ve been very conflicted about it over the last couple of years. I feel it too. I’m certainly one of those people, and when that time of year comes around, immediately, my imagination goes to all the things that we meant to do. But then, on the other hand, I’m so overwhelmed by how much amazing Star Wars content is coming into the world right now. I’m excited for the movie that Damon Lindelof is going to do. I’m excited for another season of Andor , possibly the best Star Wars show in history. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau every six months they bring out amazing, fun candy that we enjoy. You know, I think if there’s a reason for a Solo 2 it’s if there’s a big reason Of course, I would agree if there was.

“It feels like there’s so much fun. That was another version of there were so many great characters that we were able to create and, to me, I guess the weirdest argument for a Solo 2 is that the movie it was Alden’s journey to own that cape. In the end, I thought he really did, and he didn’t enjoy inhabiting it just for a movie. I’d love to see him again.”

I doubt we will ever see one Solo sequel, but Lucasfilm has developed a Landau series with Donald Glove and it will be interesting to see. It’s also the closest thing to a sequel, and it would be great if we ended up moving some of the story elements introduced in Solo forward.
