The Last of Us Episode 2 begins in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 24, 2003. Police officers approach a woman who is having lunch. Her name is Ibu Ratna. She is a professor of mycology at the University of Indonesia. They take her to a lab and ask her to examine a sample.
“This is ophiocordyceps. Why did you use chlorazole to prepare the slide? she asks. The officer says it’s the preparation used to take a sample from a human being. “Cordyceps can’t survive in humans,” she says. Until now.

Professor Ratna is dressed in protective clothing and taken to a room where a human corpse is found. You are asked to look at the patient’s left lower leg. There is a bite mark with a scar around it. He uses a scalpel to cut it. “Is that bite from a human?” asks Professor Ratna. The officer nods affirmatively.
He opens the patient’s mouth and sees the fungus living in his mouth. It sells out quickly. Professor Ratna asks when this happened. It all started 30 hours ago in a flour and wheat factory in West Jakarta. “A perfect substrate,” Dr. Ratna jokes.
The officer said the woman who was bitten suddenly became violent and bit three colleagues. They locked her in a bathroom. The police arrived and shot him. Professor Ratna asks what happened to the people she bit. They were taken away for observation and then it became clear that they too were to be executed. No one knows who bit the woman. There are still fourteen workers missing.
Professor Ratna is asked to stop it from spreading. “We need a vaccine or medicine,” the officer pleads. Professor Ratna replies: “I’ve spent my life studying these things. So please he listen carefully. There is no remedy. There is no vaccine.” You want to know what to do next.
“Bombing. Start bombing. Bombard this city… and all its inhabitants,” Professor Ratna insists. The officer looks surprised, but Professor Ratna is very serious. She begins to cry and asks to be taken home.
Ellie claims she is the key to a vaccine.
In the current timeline, Ellie wakes up to Joel and Tess watching intently. Joel has a gun pointed at Ellie. “Does it look like I’m infected?” she says. Ellie shows her arm to Joel and Tess. It hasn’t gotten worse. Tess wonders what Marlene was doing with an infected child. Ellie explains that Marlene found her after she was infected. Marlene locked him up and tested him every day. She never got sick.
Joel isn’t convinced Ellie won’t get sick. Tess knows that if she is returned, her Ellie will be killed because she will still test positive. Tess wants to know why Ellie is so important to Marlene. “Joel and I are not good people. We’re doing it for us because you seem to be worth something. But we don’t know what you’re worth unless we know what we have,” Tess tells Ellie.

Ellie reveals that Marlene told her not to tell anyone, but now she has to. “There’s a Firefly Base Camp somewhere to the west with medics. They’re working on a cure,” Ellie reveals. Joel has already heard everything. Ellie is the key to finding a vaccine. Joel doesn’t believe him. He asks Tess to reconsider this mission. Tess wants to finish. Whether or not that’s true, they’ll still get paid for it. Joel reluctantly agrees.
Joel, Ellie and Tess leave. Ellie notices a huge crater in the middle of the city. Tess explains that most of the big cities have been bombed to slow the spread of the infection. Tess asks Ellie how she got bit. Ellie has sneaked into a mall inside Boston’s QZ. I wanted to see what she was like. One of the infected appeared out of nowhere and bit her. Ellie claims she is alone. She is an orphan, so no one will come looking for her.
The trio hear a scream in the distance, but Joel insists they keep moving. They have to go through an old hotel that has been flooded by water. They pass by without finding any of the infected. Ellie tries to have a chat with Joel while Tess goes to do some research. She proceeds to answer most of her questions. Ellie wonders how long the infected live. Joel reveals that some last for about a month or two, and some have been around for 20 years. He’s killed many over the years.
Ellie, Joel and Tess fight the infected
Tess returns with bad news. She shows Ellie and Joel a swarm of infected on the ground. “They’re connected,” Ellie points out. Tess says, “More than you think. The mushroom also grows underground. Long fibers, such as threads, some of which extend more than a kilometer. Step on a piece of cordyceps in one place, you could wake up a dozen infected in another place. Now they know where you are. Now they come. You’re not immune to being torn apart, you understand? It’s essential that Ellie understands this.
Next, Ellie, Joel, and Tess must go through the Boston Museum to get to the State House, where a bunch of fireflies are waiting for Ellie. Ellie comes across a freshly killed corpse that hasn’t transformed yet. Joel and Tess are clearly scared. They must be silent as they walk through the museum. There are piles of corpses covered in dead mushrooms. Ellie accidentally makes a sound, which shakes something above.

Shortly after Ellie and Tess reach another room, part of the museum’s ceiling collapses. Unfortunately, more danger awaits them. An infected person comes to them. Joel asks Ellie and Tess to keep quiet so the infected won’t notice. Another infected enters the room. Joel’s plan fails and he ends up fighting one of the infected.
Tess and Ellie run. Joel reloads his gun and spots Ellie. She will understand. They start walking away, but he steps on a piece of glass. This sparks another fight with one of the infected and nearly kills Ellie. Joel is able to kill the infected person. The other comes running, but Tess stops him with an ax so Joel can finish him off.
Ellie appears to have been bitten again. “I mean, if it happened to one of us,” she jokes. Ellie, Joel and Tess quickly climb to the top of the building. Ellie walks on a wooden plank towards another building. Joel still has doubts about Ellie. Second bite might take. Tess urges him to accept this. This can be good news. Maybe once they could have won.
Joel approaches Ellie, who is enjoying the view. “Is this everything you expected?” he asks. She replies, “The jury is still out. But man, you can’t deny this viewpoint.
Tess makes a heartwarming sacrifice
They continue their journey. They arrive at the Government House. Joel and Tess are immediately insecure. There are no fireflies around. This is further still. Ellie notices a trail of fresh blood. Tess grabs Ellie and leads her inside her. There are dead bodies everywhere. Joel tells Ellie that one of the fireflies has been bitten. The healthy started fighting the sick and everyone lost.
All the fireflies are dead. Ellie doesn’t know where Marlene would have taken her, she only knows that she has gone west. Joel wants to go back, but Tess will stay. “I mean, sooner or later our luck would run out,” Tess admits. It is then that Ellie makes a startling discovery. “Shit, she’s infected,” Ellie says.
Joel asks Tess to show him the bite. She tries to get close to him, but he backs away. Tess pulls her shirt down and reveals the bite mark on her chest. She asks Ellie to show her bite. Ellie’s bite mark isn’t getting worse. “That’s true. Joel, she’s fucking true,” Tess says.

Tess begs Joel to take Ellie to Bill and Frank. Joel doesn’t think they’ll get her. Tess knows she will because she will convince them. “This is your chance. You take her there. You keep her alive and fix everything. All the shit we did. Please say yes, Joel,” says Tess.
One of the infected wakes up, but Joel shoots him in the head. Unfortunately, this sets off a chain reaction with the fungus and other infected, just as Tess warned. They only have about a minute. Tess picks up barrels of petrol and drops them on the ground, along with some grenades. She tells Joel to save whoever she can save her. Take Ellie and run. “No, we won’t let them!” Ellie screams.
Tess is left alone to wait for the swarm of infected. they run into her. He’s trying to get her lighter to go out. One of the infected writes the note. He leans in and kisses her, allowing the mushroom to enter her mouth. Luckily, the lighter finally lights up. Tess is killed in the explosion at Government House while Joel and Ellie escape. new episodes of The Last of Us airs Sundays at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
