The following Sundays will become sacred for the followers of ‘The Last of Us’, and that is that every week there will be a new episode of the HBO series. Now the first images of the second chapter have arrived, in which we see that Joel and Ellie will face the first clickers of their adventure, as well as other stops on their journey through Boston.
From Naughty Dog Central’s Twitter, thanks to Warner Media, comes the first images of the second episode of ‘The Last of Us’, which will premiere this Sunday, January 22 at 20:00 (Pacific time), through HBO and HBO Max. In the images we can see Pedro Pascal, Anna Torv, Christine Hakim and Bella Ramsey in some of the key moments of the plot.
But one of new images reveal the first clickers of ‘The Last of Us’, who will be the first enemies converted by the cordyceps mushroom within this universe. These creatures are like zombies, however, the fungus sprouts from their body and controls their brain, completely eliminating their humanity until they become a hive for infections.
The second episode of ‘The Last of Us’ is called “infected”, and with that, already teases the dangers that have brought this alternate world to the brink of extinction, and which will be a recurring foe throughout Joel and Ellie’s entire adventure in the HBO adaptation, although it is clear that The la main difference with the video game is its way of infecting humans, as they are not transmitted by spores.

Spores Might Be Coming to ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2
One major difference with the video game is that in the “The Last of Us” series, the parasitic fungus known as Cordyceps is not infected from the air, which eliminated the protagonists having to wear masks in enclosed spaces. In this regard, Craig Mazin, showrunner of the program, hints that the characteristic spores of this virus could arrive in the second season.
In an interview for the Washington Post, Mazin said that “it’s not out of the question that they’ll be included in the schedule, but not this season,” the director said. “For fans who love game spores (may come sooner or later). The series is expected to be renewed, which is very likely considering how successful it has been so far. The spores could very well arrive as another method of infection.
There is a theory on the internet, so far unconfirmed, that in this universe of the series, the cordyceps spread through the flour, since in the first episode we see how Joel’s old neighbor becomes a wild being, after eating the bread, and that the protagonists reject it. So the next few episodes might fix that at some point.
