Recently, Duchovny and her co-star You People, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, sat down with Collider, where they also talked about some of their career successes and failures. Duchovny said:

“I auditioned for Reservoir Dogs. It was like in the late 80s.

Louis-Dreyfus couldn’t help but tease Duchovny, who obviously didn’t get the part, by asking, “Did you get that?” Duchovny played, answering:

“Yeah. I’m amazing in it. They did this Tim Roth head replacement for me. It really pissed me off. I didn’t know about it. I went to the premiere and was like, ‘Oh, Tim Roth’s head is on mine.’ ”

Then he came back to reality and remembered:

“So I auditioned for Quentin Tarantino, and this isn’t a Quentin impersonation, but he’s a very energetic guy, and he says, ‘I really like what you do. I don’t know if I want you to do that in my film.’ It was the best rejection I’ve ever received in my life.”

I don’t know about you, but I can absolutely hear it in Tarantino’s voice. Even though it’s a rejection, it feels genuine, and we know now that he has such a vision for his films, from the dialogue to the costumes to the music. He can see everything in his mind’s eye before he comes to life, and if you’re not the actor for the part, it’s only because he has something else in his vision of him. He is such a character, himself.

Can you imagine Duchovny in the role?
