After the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran as president of DC Studios, the DC Universe is in full reconstruction. While plans for the franchise’s future aren’t public, everything seems to indicate that it will undergo a near-complete reboot. No interpreter who was a part of the DCU prior to the signing of the new presidents has their stay assured, there is no better example than that of Henry Cavill. About fifty days after confirming his return as Superman, Gunn revealed that it won’t finally be the case, that they’ve given up on him.

With so much uncertainty about which actor or actress is safe from the purge and who isn’t, Jason Momoa could be one of the lucky ones. The actor, who plays Aquaman in the DC Universe, shared a video in a story on his Instagram account where he is elated, happy and excited about the news related to his future at DC. It looks like you just found out or, if you knew her before, made it official. In the video, she begins by explaining that four years ago she cried out how much she loved Warner Bros. As soon as she said this, she cried out again with joy and kept talking: “I have great news. Great news with Warner Bros. Amazing. I wish I could tell you. Peter (Safran), I love you. James (Gunn), I love you.” Then he names David Zaslav, president of Warner Bros. Discovery. He returns elated, blows a kiss and concludes by saying: “To the future”.

Clearly, his words and emotion are far from those of someone who has just been told of his demise in the DC Universe. On the contrary, it could be a new beginning for Momoa in which he says goodbye to Aquaman and welcomes another character. While it is true that it gives the impression that Gunn wants to cast new interpreters for already seen characters and thus differentiate themselves from the past as much as possible, the director would have no problem having old DCU faces for different roles. Despite the actor’s firing because he didn’t fit into his plans for Superman, since then explained that he would be happy to work with Cavill in the future. Once confirmed movies released before Gunn and Safran take over the presidency of DC, including ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, The new DC will begin and with it the stage for Momoa as the mercenary Lobo.
Why Wolf?
Lobo is an alien from the utopian planet of Czarnia who works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. He’s a character that James Gunn has made it clear on several occasions that he adores, so it wouldn’t be strange if he decides to incorporate him into the DCU soon. Momoa, in addition to being physically very similar to Lobo, has shared several times that he loves the character and would like to bring him to life in the future. “It would be amazing if that happened”Momoa responded in November when asked if he would like to star in a Lobo film.
If we take into account that both parties are very interested in the character, as well as the fact that Gunn has no problem hiring actors from the old DCU for new roles since, according to The Hollywood Reporter in December, DC presidents want a Lobo movie with Momoa, it wouldn’t be unreasonable that this is why the actor is so happy. However, there is nothing official yet, it could be a third Aquaman film, but considering the direction that Gunn and Safran’s plans seem to be taking, that would be a bit strange.
