After the many announcements that Netflix has made regarding new releases arriving on the platform, the streaming service has just confirmed that the time has also come to prepare for the goodbyes. This is the case with the spin-off of ‘Karate Kid’, ‘Cobra Kai’, a series that has been renewed for a sixth season, but at the same time it has been revealed that it will be the last.

netflix has published on their social networks a farewell and thank you letter written by the creators of the series, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. In this statement, the filmmakers explain that their priority from day one has been to finish the story of ‘Cobra Kai’ in the way that felt right to them, to end it at the time and place they always envisioned. They confirm this was the case: “It is with great pride and appreciation that we can announce this milestone. Season 6 will mark the end of ‘Cobra Kai’.” While the series’ departure may be sad news for its fans, it’s reassuring and cause for celebration that it will conclude as the creative team has always intended, with no early cancellations or need to squeeze the story any more than anticipated.

A key part of the farewell message for the future of the franchise is that the creators of “Cobra Kai” do not permanently close the dojo: “We look forward to telling more ‘Karate Kid’ stories in the future”, recites a part of the text, clarifying that it is possible that another one will soon be born from this spin-off. This statement is not new, it reiterates what has already been expressed on several occasions by the creators of the series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in September, Hurwitz revealed that she is interested in continuing to expand this franchise: “All options are on the table. It’s special entertainment that we’re connected to. And now, even more than five years ago, we can’t wait to explore more.”
“Greatest Season to Date”
While it’s true that the premiere date for the sixth and final season hasn’t been confirmed yet, Heald, Hurwitz and Schlossberg advise the public in the statement to prepare “‘Cobra Kai’ Biggest Season To Date”. The creators say goodbye by saying that everything the series has achieved has been thanks to the fans: “May today be a celebration of everything we’ve been through, plus what remains to be told. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
‘Cobra Kai’ is Available on Netflix.
