The show has not yet started for season seven. Did you write this family assuming it could be a series finale?
Andre Chapman: We talked about it a lot because that’s exactly what you just said. We don’t know if it will be a season finale or a series finale, so we tried to write an episode that could serve as both. Of course, we knew it was going to be the season finale, so we wanted to tie in everything that we felt was thematically important in season six. But since the future is unknown, we also thought this was a bit of both. ways. It could work as a series finale if we were to have it. Of course, we don’t want that to be the case. We do not know. But it has the potential to work that way.

Did you hear anything? Is the prognosis good?
Andre Chapman: We don’t know entirely. I honestly don’t think Fox is going to do that. They are waiting to see how their shows go. They are waiting to see what the future looks like. I do not know. We won’t know until April or May.

There’s so much story to explore in another season. Bell will be on leave to participate in the Devon MS study. Would Bruce Greenwood be back full time but not in the OR?
Andre Chapman: No, I don’t think Bruce Greenwood will be back full time. We’ve talked to him and there’s a lot going on in his life. He’s made it clear how hard he wants to work, so I think he’d come back part-time. We would put it in history. He is one of the founding actors of the whole show. In a weird way, he’s the backbone of the show. Somehow he continues your career. He starts out as a guy who kills someone with an appendectomy, and by the end of the season, he’s really redeemed himself. He’s redeemed himself as someone of great character and morals, doing what’s right and truly understanding the mistakes he’s made. In a way, he goes with the show.

Do you see Andrew McCarthy reprising his role as patriarch Chastain next season?
Andre Chapman: You know, a little. I think that’s the idea. Amy Holden-Jones, the creator of the show, and I’ve talked about it a lot. She loves Andrew and was in a relationship with Andrew McCarthy from previous shows and I heard this was a guy who could serve as a stepping stone for Randolph Bell and he has his own demons and problems. These are demons and problems prevalent in today’s medical world, making him a perfect avatar for what goes on in hospitals. Plus, he’s an amazing actor. He has a stellar presence in every scene he’s in. You’re like, wow, what’s he gonna do next?

Devon proposes to Leela at the end of season six. We know it the resident love a wedding. Will it be their wedding in season 7?
Andre Chapman: Absolutely. We really want that to happen. We feel these two guys are the future: Devon and Leela. They are such an interesting medical couple who are about to get married and are trying to not only live their own lives but also deal with the pressures and stress of working at the hospital. We love a wedding too. Who does not?

Bell actually passed the flashlight, or stethoscope, to Leela at the end of the episode. What do you have planned for her when she goes solo as an assistant?
Andre Chapman: I think what’s interesting about the program is that it’s called the resident, Right? It’s really about the path taken by wide-eyed, idealistic internist doctors and residents like Devon. And then they have to deal with all the stresses of modern American medicine, the modern American healthcare system and all the trappings and corruptions of that, the money and the time and the pressure and the way these high stakes decisions are made. What we love about Leela is that she, again, she seems idealistic. When she started, she showed up three hours before her shift and everyone was like, wow, you’re taking this really seriously. She has these issues with her sister about her and she has issues with Billie, how is she going to choose what kind of major? We truly feel that she is the perfect person to become an orderly and explore all of these topics of modern American medicine and what it’s like to be a surgeon in the system. She’s ready to be picked up, so to speak, right? She is perfectly positioned to weave the story around her character.

On another romantic note, Conrad finally says “I love you” to Billie. What is their future in terms of their relationship and how are they moving forward?
Andre Chapman: It is not known. It is not clear. I think we really wanted to see how they would look in the film. We were really looking forward to the hottest celebrity news.
