SPOILERS WARNING!
*This article contains spoilers for Chapter 1 of “The Last of Us”.
HBO Max already kicked off the Cordyceps era with the first episode of ‘The Last of Us’. This first installment in the series by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin exceeds 80 minutes in length and covers the first bars of the video game, with a powerful opening that sets the whole Joel and Ellie story in motion. We’re going to talk about spoilers in this article, so if you haven’t seen it yet, stop reading!

The episode, entitled ‘When you’re lost in the dark’, expands the prologue of Naughty Dog’s game and then shows us as Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Tess (Anna Torv) are hired by Marlene (Merle Dandridge), leader of the Fireflies, to get Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of the Boston quarantine area, without much other information. After an encounter with the soldier Joel was dealing with moments earlier, they discover that Ellie is infected, but she assures her that her wound is three weeks old and she still hasn’t converted.
A little earlier we see Ellie and Joel in his apartment making time before leaving. In addition to hearing the game’s mythical phrase “your watch is broken”, we also checked out how the puzzles of “The Last of Us” would be very good. The young woman deciphers the secret code that Joel has with Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett), whose initials appear on the card she finds inside the book of musical hits. Bill plays a song on the radio and depending on the decade the song was released that means good or bad news in which the smuggling of materials is perceived. The 60s mean no new goods arrived, the 70s did… and the 80s is a bad sign.
Turn off the TV and turn on the transistor
The first chapter of the series closes with a shot approaching the radio, in which a song begins to play. The song in question is “Never Let Me Down Again” by Depeche Mode, originally released in … 1987.. And we already know what the 80s mean.
But to find out what the problem is, we’ll have to wait for ‘The Last of Us’ to return to HBO Max with new chapters. The second episode of the season (which will count nine in total) will be released on the streaming platform on Monday 23 January.
