‘Star Wars’, ‘Star Trek’ or ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ have taught us that most science fiction stories are commonly related to space adventures. And although there are people who don’t like this kind of plot at all, or even worse, who suffer from astrophobia, these sci-fi films have more earthy stories.

Let’s start with what could be one of best sci-fi movies of all time, ‘Blade Runner’. Ridley Scott’s masterpiece features Detective Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, who must capture a group of androids who have infiltrated Earth, posing as ordinary humans. Available on HBO Max.

What if aliens came to Earth, but 30 years later they are now part of humanity? This question is answered by “District 9”, one of best sci-fi movies for people with astrophobia. And is that it’s a story where in South Africa, where they were separated from humans, and taken to an area where they live as scum. Available on HBO Max, Claro and Amazon Prime Video.

Edge of tomorrow

For those who don’t like space combat, there is ‘Edge of Tomorrow’, one of the best sci-fi movies set on earth. Tom Cruise plays an officer who is killed in combat, but wakes up within minutes with an opportunity to set things right until the alien menace is exterminated. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

In a more dramatic and romantic story we have Spike Jonze’s sci-fi story with “Her”. This is a movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara and Scarlett Johansson where we meet a man who falls in love with his computer operating system, which seems very strange, but nowadays it doesn’t seem so crazy anymore. Terminator 2

In one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s most important roles, and also one of the best sequels of all time, we have James Cameron’s “Terminator 2”. In this post-apocalyptic future, a cyborg is sent into the present to assassinate a waitress, who could decide the future of humanity. However, the woman and her son get help from another equipped car. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Matrix

Finally, definitely one of the most popular on the list, and one that has gained more fans over time, is 1999’s “The Matrix”. The Wachowski sisters along with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss star in this sci-fi thriller in which a hacker computer scientist investigates a simulated reality in which humans serve as mere fuel. Available on HBO Max, Claro and Amazon Prime Video.
