Now that true crime series or serial killer stories are all the rage, there seems to be no room for psychological thrillers in the current trend. However, HBO Max has an excellent catalog of some of the best titles in the genre, and from which it will surely be very difficult to keep your eyes off the screen until the very end.
Leaving aside the controversies with the director and her leads, Olivia Wilde premiered ‘Don’t Worry Darling’, one of the best psychological thrillers on HBO Max. The story stars Florence Pugh, who plays Alice, a housewife who she suspects that nothing in the new neighborhood is as it seems, and she believes her husband, played by Harry Styles, has something to do with it.
Ex car
In a combination of suspense and science fiction, we have a dark psychological thriller with ‘Ex-Machina’, directed by Alex Garland. The story follows an engineer who wins the opportunity to visit the offices of a company that wants to test his latest creation, an android capable of replicating human emotions, and which the protagonist must put to the test. Available on HBO Max.
Last night in Soho
One of the best thrillers you can watch on HBO Max right now it’s ‘Last Night in Soho’, a film directed by Edgar Wright, and starring Annya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie and Matt Smith. The plot follows Sandie, a girl who travels back in time and ends up in the 60s, where she meets a singer, but nothing that happens seems to be real.

Old
M. Night Shyamalan is one of the directors who knows that of psychological thrillers. And one of his most recent stories is ‘Old Men’, a horror and suspense film starring Thomasin McKenzie, Abby Lee Kershaw and Gael García Bernal. The story follows a family who take a vacation to a beach where, strangely, they begin to age rapidly, reducing the rest of their lives to just one day.
Kimi
With Zoe Kravitz, we have “Kimi”, a science fiction and suspense film directed by Steven Soderbergh. Angela Childs is a technology company employee who suffers from agoraphobia. One day she discovers plans for a murder, and she must alert her bosses about her, but to do so she will have to overcome her fears.
The room
Finally we have Oscar nominee, Brie Larson for her participation in this suspenseful drama called ‘The Room’. Lenny Abrahamson made up this story about Jack, a 5-year-old boy who never left the room where he was born. His mother kept him away from the real world, until the thing that protected him for many years becomes unbearable.
