‘Superman’: James Gunn assures they won’t pick Henry Cavill’s replacement until script is written

The DC Universe is in the midst of a restructuring process under the new leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are drawing up a ten-year plan to unify the franchise and put the Zack Snyder era behind them. This leads to the departure of his original actors, such as Henry Cavill, who shocked the fandom by announcing that he would not be returning as the Man of Steel, despite him announcing the official return shortly before him. Since then, the conversation about who will be his successor at DC has only escalated. but Gunn wants us to calm down, because the Superman reboot isn’t at that stage yet.

‘Superman’: James Gunn assures they won’t pick Henry Cavill’s replacement until script is written

The rumor that made Gunn return to Twitter (if he ever left) to clarify with his usual frankness what is happening behind closed doors at DC is the one that points to Jacob Elordi, popular actor who brings Nate to life in ‘Euphoria ‘ and Noah in Netflix’s romantic saga ‘My First Kiss’, as the one chosen to play the new Superman. “No one has been cast as Superman yet”Gunn replies on the social network. “Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is done or nearly done, which it isn’t. We’ll be announcing a few things shortly, but casting Superman won’t be one of them.”.

Gunn refers to the presentation he and Safran are preparing to publicize the plan they are devising for the DC Universe, and the date of which is still unknown, although according to the producer’s words it shouldn’t be very far off. Last December, Gunn confirmed that he himself was writing the script for the new chapter of DC’s most iconic superhero and clarified that it is not an origin story. “Our story will focus on an early stage in Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill”Gunn said in his time. The decision has many fans turned against him, but the new DC boss promises that all they’re doing is “in service of the story and the characters we know you value and have cherished all our lives”.

The new Superman is only part of Gunn and Safran’s new plan, who canceled the third chapter of ‘Wonder Woman’ with Gal Gadot and won’t have a sequel to Black Adam with Dwayne Johnson. The DC storyline going forward and staying on the sidelines is Matt Reeves’ Batverse.. As recently revealed, Gunn and Safran will soon meet Reeves to work together on ‘The Batman’ universe, which includes ‘The Penguin’ series and it won’t necessarily join the cohesive shared universe that DC wants to build Marvel-style.

The casting of fans does not stop

That James Gunn has denied casting Jacob Elordi to play the new Superman doesn’t mean he’s completely ruled out. When it comes time to cast the new Clark Kent, the ‘Euphoria’ actor could very well still be among the candidates for the role. In the meantime, DC fans continue to speculate who could follow in Cavill’s footstepsand besides Elordi, the names of David Corenswet (‘The Politician’), who bears a great physical resemblance to Cavill, Austin Butler, who has just won the Golden Globe for ‘Elvis’ or Adam DiMarco, whose popularity has increased has filmed thanks to ‘The White Lotus’.
