The Sundance Film Festival is still happening, but tickets are not currently available for the Park City Shindig.
“Our apologies but ticket sales remain closed today,” the Robert Redford-founded party announced online this afternoon after a day of website crashes, lost purchases and many return buttons on many keyboards. “Sales will reopen tomorrow, Friday, January 13 at 12:00 PM MT,” the Sundance website and social media feed added.
At the first in-person Sundance in three pandemic years and a week before the official start of 2023, problems began early Thursday. With single ticket sales starting today, I understand there has been a lot of traffic on the Sundance grounds in the early hours of the morning.
Clearly too much traffic.
“We had a technical issue with ticket sales today,” a Sundance spokesperson told Deadline as the venue grew colder than the winter winds that blew across Park City’s Main Street in January. “We apologize to those affected.”
As for impact, potential moviegoers on Thursday found the site slow to pick tickets and switch to digital slush when it comes to box office and confirmation. Then the problems spread to signups, with prospects suddenly becoming new users when they sign up again in hopes of recovering from the frustrating process.
Although this is not the first time in the festival’s long history that online ticket sales have been affected, and certainly not like the cyber attack in 2017 that shut down the entire hall for several hours. Today’s “technical issue” seems to have taken Sundance IT by surprise. After a few hours of silence on Twitter as complaints mounted, the festival team simply said we’re trying:
We know it’s frustrating, but our team is working hard to resolve the issue and get you your tickets as soon as possible. Please check back at 4:00 PM MT for another update.

I hope everything is sorted out in the morning, Sundance officials tell me they’ll update festival-goers on Friday if there are any further issues with the site.
Cross your fingers with the winter gloves.
The 2023 Sundance Film Festival takes place January 19-29.
