The first full trailer has been released for the series, and while I’m open to the idea of a show like this, the kind of comedy I’m seeing in the trailer just doesn’t sell to me. They were obviously inspired by what the Harley Quinn animated series is doing, but I’m not sure if it will work as well. Maybe the series will be better than what I see in the trailer.
The series brings us an origin story of Velma Dinkley, “the unknown and underrated mastermind of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. This original and entertaining interpretation unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers .
The animated comedy series for adults presents Mindy Kaling (The office, The Mindy Project) in the title character’s voice, as well as comedic Constance Wu like Daphne, Sam Richardson such as Shaggy, e Glen Howton like Fred. Other cast members include Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Stefano Root, Gary Cole, Ken Leung, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Saraju blue, Nicole Byer, Ming Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Kulap VilaysakAnd Karl-Anthony Towns.
Velma premieres on HBO Max on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Watch the trailer and let us know if you like what you see! I don’t know, of all the things HBO Max is canceling and removing from service, this is what’s made it past the cut.
