Eddie Murphy received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes on Tuesday for his work in Hollywood. The actor concluded his speech with the “blueprint” for aspiring actors to succeed in the industry.
“I want you to know that there is a definite plan you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity and peace of mind,” he said. “There is a blueprint and I have followed it throughout my career. It’s very easy.”
Murphy continued, “Just do these three things: pay your taxes, mind your own business, and keep the name of Will Smith’s wife out of your mouth.”
Before the microphone dropped, Tracy Mordan took the stage to present the award to his colleague. Morgan said he was inspired by Murphy and because of him he knew he wanted to be a comedian.
After looking back on Murphy’s career, Jamie Lee Curtis took the stage and called Murphy “one of the most talented, funniest and charismatic performers alive today.” Curtis remembers working with Murphy trade places 1983

“I’ve been in show business for 46 years and in film for 41 years,” Murphy said when he received his award. “So it took a long time and it was very much appreciated.”
