Yash Raj Films (YRF) has released the first trailer of their upcoming Bollywood espionage thriller Pathanstarring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padikone and John Abraham, releasing across India and worldwide on January 25. Watch it above.
Hopes are high that the film will end the recent string of box office disappointments in the Hindi language film industry. The film is the first with Khan since Zero in 2018, but has already been hit by the boycott brigade Bollywood on social media. The biggest objection was Besharam Rang’s number, which featured Padikone in a skimpy orange bikini, prompting India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to request changes to the film.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, Pathan is the fourth installment of the “YRF Spy Universe” and also features Salman Khan in a cameo role. The story revolves around an expatriate Indian field agent for a spy agency tasked with taking down a private terrorist operation planning an attack on India. The film will release in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil versions.
YRF was also smart to bag two of the biggest stars of the South Indian film industry – Tollywood’s Ram Charan (RRR) and Vijay of Kollywood (master) – to help release the trailers for the Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions of the film.
Charan tweeted referring to “action sequences like never before,” and Vijay linked to the trailer.
