The premiere of “Avatar: The Way of Water” was a complete success, and at this time it climbed to the seventh position of the highest-grossing films, leaving Marvel’s “Avengers” behind. Director James Cameron is clear that the saga will continue and that “Avatar 3” will only set the table for future stories to come to the sci-fi and fantasy franchise.
In a new interview for The Hollywood Reporter, James Cameron has revealed the first details of ‘avatars 3’, which confirmed that it will present a new race of Na’vi, which will be less benevolent than those presented so far, and which will be called “Ash People”, or people of the ashes. “I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, until now, I’ve only shown their good side,” said the director.
Now that Disney has given the green light to subsequent deliveries, James Cameron says so ‘avatars 3’ it will be essential for the future of the franchise: “We will explore new worlds by continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way of setting the table before serving the food».
Basically, James Cameron says it with ‘avatars 3’ the following stories will be based there, and from its story, the rest of the arcs would develop that would culminate in the end of the franchise, which should be 7 films in total. The director started with the final details of the third episode, shot almost simultaneously with ‘The Way of Water’, to prevent his young protagonists from growing up so much.

When does ‘Avatar 3’ hit theaters?
Since Cameron and Disney’s plan is to release one movie every year, ‘Avatar 3’ will be released on December 20, 2024, hopefully. It is worth mentioning that while the recordings went well, the post-production phase is the longest in this franchise, as digital effects are the studio’s top priority.
And although its release is still almost two years away, Cameron will soon begin to devote all his efforts to installments 4 and 5 of “Avatar” and, with it, the last years of his career as a director. But until then, the story with Sam Worthington and Zoë Saldaña has to prove that every installment is profitable to continue.
For now, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ continues on its way to catch up with ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ at the box office, and stomp the top spots which continue to be led by ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’, so like two other films by the same director like ‘Titanic’ and ‘Avatar 1’.
