M3GAN is a box office hit and there are already plans for a sequel. Screenwriter Akela Cooper has been open about writing the script for the horror film, revealing that it was originally “gorier” and that an unrated version may be in development.

“No shade to Universal, I love them and I understand when the trailer went viral, teenagers got involved and you want them to see it. There should be an unrated version one day,” she said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “I heard it’s in the books. But yeah, it was a lot bloodier. Her body count in the script was higher than in the film.”

Cooper, who also wrote maliciouslysaid that M3GANs The body count wasn’t a “massive massacre” like in the previous film, “but it killed a lot more people, including a few characters than James [Wan] was like, “I like what you did to these people, but I want them to live.” I was ruthless, but then again, I am. My humor is extremely dark.”

“A senior manager who read one of my specs and really liked it said, ‘It’s gory and nobody does gore now. We will have to wait until a horror movie with blood comes out and becomes a hit, and then the market will change. ‘ I said, ‘Okay … we can lead this attack,”’ she said. “Now it’s me [hearing], ‘There is blood, and it is not a problem.’ I’m glad I could help bring back funny horror that doesn’t take itself too seriously. I read about more horror movies that are wild, unusual ideas that come true or are bought. And some are original, which is good! I’m glad I got to steer this ship so studio executives can say, ‘Oh! There might be money in these hills.’”

M3GAN has also been compared to Chucky Children’s games and Cooper shared how to tell them apart.

“Chucky is a doll; It is an AI companion. To get around this obstacle, she has to be the size of the kid she befriends,” she explained. “In the beginning Cady was 6 or 7 and now in the movie she is 8. [So M3GAN] is taller and can walk around, move, which immediately sets her apart from Annabelle and Chucky. You want that creepiness because it bothers people.
