Jason Grant and Nikki Batista had the surprise of their lives when their son, Keith, returned 6 years after being kidnapped. The fractured family was reunited by Keith who returned to their lives, but the final moments of the Alert: Missing Persons Unit The series premiere hinted that all is not as it seems. Is Keith really her son? Or is he an imposter?
hollywood life spoke EXCLUSIVELY with Alert co-creator John Eisendrath about that incredible twist. Jason and Nikki work for the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit, and John revealed how they will be affected by the issues surrounding Keith.

“I think one of the things I love is that experts in this field, like experts in many fields, can be completely surprised when their emotions get in the way,” John said. “There are a lot of stories in this particular area where parents are so desperate for the person who has become their child again that they just ignore things and rationalize all aspects that might not be the case.”
The blacklist EP continued, “In this case, we have his daughter Sydney, a character who is adamant from the outset that she doesn’t feel like she’s her brother. The parents are grappling with that and trying to process why the hell the other child is so adamant, and we’re going to take the audience through different kinds of stories and permutations that, for a while, are going to take us further down the rabbit hole. . do is or is not. I think in a story like this there are a lot of different twists where you think you know the answer, but the answer isn’t what you think it will be. And then you’re sure you know the answer and then wait, wait. This is not what I thought. I think it’s going to be an incredibly fun ride that I hope audiences enjoy as they try to figure out if it’s their child or not.”
The final moments of the episode showed Keith ripping pages regarding her disappearance from his diary. John emphasized that audiences deserve “true answers every step of the way, so we’re going to be telling very factual stories. We’ll run every possible test, question, and investigation, and I’m pretty sure we’ll have a surprising array of answers to all the various efforts that go into trying to confirm that he is, in fact, your child.

After Keith’s disappearance, Nikki and Jason’s marriage ends. Nikki gets engaged to one of her co-workers, Mike, in the series premiere. The co-creator revealed how Nikki and Jason’s relationship will change now that Keith is (presumably) back.
“Now that the son they believe in has been returned to them, they will inevitably wonder, sooner or later, if the family has recovered again with the return of the son, what is the impact on their relationship? It’s the kind of breakthrough I think audiences can accept,” John said. hollywood life. “You will support, I hope, Nikki and Jason because they didn’t divorce because one of them cheated on the other. They didn’t divorce because they treated each other badly. They divorced for a very good reason and now I think people can support them.
He continued, “But wait, Mike is such a sweet guy. I hope some of the audience is rooting not for Jason but for Mike. I feel like it’s very rare to have a love triangle where you can cheer everyone up.”
Throughout the season, as audiences question whether or not Keith is really Keith, so will the question of whether or not Nikki and Jason will get back together. “I think we’re definitely going to tell stories that put Nikki and Jason in very emotional situations that make them explicitly or implicitly think about the days they were together and a happy couple,” she said.

From the start, Nikki and Jason’s daughter Sidney are dubious about Keith. John teased the fallout over how the former couple will deal with their daughter’s doubts about her brother.
“They won’t agree on whether or not to address Sidney’s insistence that Keith is not his brother. As much as history brings them together, it’s hard for them. It’s broad and emotional, and I don’t always agree. There’s going to be a definite balance between how this story brings them together and how it challenges them.” Alert: Missing Persons Unit Airs Sundays on FOX.
