450 million dollars made Netflix the home of Benoit Blanc, a huge investment they have entrusted to “compensate” with their subscribers because the film only spent a week in theaters (quite successful according to US data). Among the trump cards that Johnson has resorted to in order to win back his audience, the brilliant screenplay of the film stands out, which in the opinion of many critics It is at the level of the screenplay for which ‘Puñales por el espalda’ was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best original screenplay; and those cameos designed to dazzle the viewer.

Several familiar faces surprise making the audience laugh, but none conquer like the appearance of Hugh Grant, an actor who plays the Blanc couple. Immersed in the daily life of the pandemic, the detective played by Daniel Craig and his boyfriend spend their days soaking and the other baking bread in a beautiful apartment which, according to Johnson, they can only afford because Grant’s character “has a real job”.

“They’re a couple. His name is Phillip (Grant), and I basically ran into him thinking who I’d be happier to pair with Benoit Blanc: Hugh Grant. He’s been a pleasure to work with. He came to the set one day, we shot this disjointed scene and he trusted us to put it into the film.. I also love that she’s cooking at home, trying to make sourdough bread. I don’t know if I see him as Sherlock de Blanc’s Watson, but it’s nice to have different resources, plus that apartment is so nice that I can’t imagine Blanc being able to afford it, so I think [Phillip] he has a real job”says Johnson on Empire’s “Spoiler Special” podcast (via Collider).

Will he come back in the third episode?

Rian Johnson clarifies that if he can get Hugh Grant back for ‘Puñas por el espera 3’, he would feel very lucky. “We’ll see, but I also feel that if that happens, It will be later because I believe it is also important to establish limits which for me would be marked by the mystery itself.. I mean, it’s not about the detective, it’s about the story.”says the director in statements to Netflix itself. “It’s not about delving into who Benoit Blanc is or where he comes from, he can’t be the protagonist… The film must focus on the mystery. I also tell you that if something makes me laugh, sooner or later I will inevitably do it again.”.
