Manufacturers James Wan and Jason Blumthe modern masters of horror, have made another great horror movie with M3GAN. The film is a techno-horror thriller centered around an AI robot doll who becomes self-aware and starts killing people. I enjoyed the footage shared in the trailers, but still wasn’t sure what to expect from the film, and the big surprise for me was how much humor was built into the story!

The movie was full of moments that had me and the rest of the audience laughing hysterically throughout the movie. There were so many funny moments sprinkled throughout the film, but it also delivered the fun and playful creepiness that is teased in the trailer. All that weird dance sequence that’s highlighted in the trailers that everyone’s talking about? This is one of the least interesting moments in the film. So, if you enjoyed it, wait and see what else is in store!
The film is directed by Gerard Johnstonewho directed the Australian horror film Homeboundand the script comes from Akela Cooper (Malignant, The nun 2). This creative team did such a fantastic job of bringing this story to life, and it’s unlike any killer doll movie you’ve ever seen before. M3GAN a lot of it has a unique glow that I think will captivate audiences.
There are still a lot of naysayers out there that weren’t sold on the trailer, but I have a feeling everyone will be talking about how good this movie is. There will be a wave of word-of-mouth hype, and naysayers won’t be able to ignore it. Eventually they will see the movie and they will love it. This is definitely one of those movies that I think lives up to the hype!
The story follows a young girl named Cady, who, after losing her parents in a car accident, ends up living with her aunt Gemma. Gemma is a brilliant toy company roboticist, who creates a technologically advanced, life-like AI doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and parent’s greatest ally named M3GAN. She can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, to the child she is bonded to. That little girl ends up being Cady, and M3GAN will do whatever it takes to protect her and that includes killing those who harm her.
This is just the basic plot, I won’t go into any other details of the story. This film is best seen knowing as little as possible. The film is the protagonist Allison Williams (Come out, perfection) as GemmaViolet McGraw like Cady, Ronny Chieng (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace), Jen Van Epps (Cowboy bebop), Lori Dungey (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, extended edition), and Stephane Garneau-Monten (Simple). They’re all great in the film, but Williams and McGraw definitely stand out. But the real star of the film is M3GAN.
This movie was great to watch and will give audiences an incredibly fun time at the movies!
