Following the incredible release of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, James Cameron has spoken out on several occasions about what’s next, not just in the franchise, but for him as a director. And now, he confesses that he believes the rest of his career behind the cameras could be devoted entirely to the ‘Avatar’ films, and finish the story he has in mind for the saga.

In a recent interview for Empire, together with director SS Rajamouli, James Cameron believes his life expectancy is short, and regrets the possibility of not seeing all the stories in his head come true at some point. Recall that he is the director of the highest-grossing films of all time, such as ‘Titanic’ and ‘Avatar’, which are in the Top 10 in history.

SS Rajamouli, director of ‘RRR’, questioned the director behind ‘Terminator 2’ about his plans for the rest of his career, and James Cameron confessed ‘Avatars’ it could mean the rest of his career: “Avatar is so vast that I can tell most of the stories I want to tell within it and try out many of the stylistic techniques I hope to explore. And second, yes… our time as artists is over. I will always mourn some of the stories I can’t do.

But even if With James Cameron he wants to spend the rest of his career ‘Avatars’, does not close the door to other directors dealing with his film projects: “I get great satisfaction when other directors want to explore some of my ideas, like Kathryn Bigelow did with Strange Days, and Robert Rodríguez when I handed the baton to him in Alita: Battle Angel. I look forward to collaborating with directors I admire in the future.”

James Cameron already sees the end of his career near

Although Cameron has designed 7 Avatar films in total, the director believes the end of his career is near, and he doesn’t fear the idea that, if it becomes impossible to continue at some point, he will spend the rest of the story in Pandora to another director who concludes in the best way what he started in 2009, with the story starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña as Jake and Neytiri.

‘Avatar’ meant a great physical and mental breakdown for James Cameron, so the director says it would be nearly impossible to finish the franchise with him on camera. However, the success of each one conditions the following ones and, in case of failure, he created the third part as closure of the plot, even if the remaining 4 films are never realized.

As of now, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ has grossed $1.1 billion worldwide, placing it as one of the highest-grossing films of all of 2022. However, it still lacks to be a profitable film for Disney, and that it is positioned in the highest grossing of all time.
