It seems impossible to think that anyone else could play Marla Singer after Helena Bonham Carter’s iconic performance in ‘Fight Club’. However, the actress wasn’t David Fincher’s first choice, in fact she was Courtney Love, who according to an interview report was abruptly fired after a confrontation with Brad Pitt.

The discussion came when director Gus Van Sant and Pitt told her why they wanted to make a movie based on the life of Kurt Cobainto whom Love was married from 1992 until her death in 1994. “I exploded”says the singer on the podcast titled ‘WTF’. “I didn’t let Brad play Kurt”He says. “Who the hell do you think you are?”he exclaims on the show.
Love says she told the actor: “I don’t know if I trust you and I don’t know if your films are for profit. They are great social justice films, but… If you don’t understand me, you don’t understand Kurt, and I don’t mind that you understand that, Brad.”. Soon after, she was replaced by Carter in “Fight Club”. It was Edward Norton himself, her then partner, who broke the news. The actress says Norton started crying and told her that he didn’t have any kind of power in the matter.
Although the actress claims she was fired, It seems that it would be more of a rejection before production, since sources close to the film say they did not offer him the rolethough presumably the director would call to confirm they’d cast her as Marla Singer. “You can’t get fired from a job you weren’t given”the source tells Variety.
Both movies were made
‘Fight Club’ is one of the most emblematic films of Fincher’s career and Van Sant finally made a film inspired by the life of Kurt Cobain, ‘Last Days’, with an actor who, although not related to Brad Pitt, bears a significant resemblance in physique and even in name: Michael Pitt. Still, Love says this isn’t the project the director and actor originally told him about, though he wouldn’t go into detail.
