The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense wanted to promote their new Himars system, high mobility artillery rockets, and realized that the best way was compare the country’s war with Russia with the images of “Die Hard Jungle”, promise its citizens that, like Bruce Willis, even if they are the “losers”, they will win the race. And all with a strange Christmas tone.
A loser who wins against the bad guys. This is the kind of story that everyone likes.
Dedicated to all the diehards on the front lines.
Ukraine will win!

“An underdog wins against the bad guys. That’s the kind of story we like.
Dedicated to all the “hard to kill” on the front lines. Ukraine will win! Yippee Ki-Yay…!”
And in the video the text says: “This Christmas, Ukraine celebrates the festive story of how an arrogant terrorist’s special military operation was thwarted by a poor underdog. It was the perfect plan, leaving nothing to chance, until it all went wrong.”. And then an edited scene from the film comes out where we see one of the dead terrorists and on his shirt it says: “Now we have HIMARS, Ho-Ho-Ho” (High Mobility Artillery Missile System). And the campaign ends with another message: “The war you never wanted is the one you can’t afford to lose. This Christmas, the ancient story of David and Goliath touches us all right.”
Of course Russia is represented by Alan Rickman’s character, Hans Gruber, and Bruce Willis’ John McClane represents Ukraine.
christmas movie
While this has been talked about since it was released, it wasn’t until 2022 that ‘Die Hard’ was officially declared a Christmas movie, at least in San Diego. Nathan Fletcher, chairman of the county supervisory board, said in a video on Twitter: “‘Die Die’ is a Christmas movie. And I hereby officially declare by the power vested in me as Chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, that ‘Die Die’ is officially a Christmas movie in all of San Diego County, now and forever in the future”.
Let it be resolved: I’ve officially proclaimed Die Hard a Christmas movie for all of San Diego County. #YippeeKiYay #Happy Christmas pic.twitter.com/WJfBsOTmxI

Among the arguments he gives is that the plot takes place on Christmas Eve, which has Christmas music and which has all the symbolism of this holiday. So there’s no more doubt, Willis is as good a symbol of Christmas as Santa Claus (although we might not equate him to baby Jesus).
