A new trailer has been released for the body horror thriller The Substance, starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and Dennis Quaid.

A new trailer has been released for the body horror thriller film The Substance, starring Demi Moore alongside Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid. The film has generated significant buzz, particularly surrounding the performance of Moore. The project presents a darker, more twisted version of concepts reminiscent of At the edge of reality.

The story revolves around a product called The Substance that promises to transform people into the best versions of themselves of their dreams, though the plot carries a sinister twist. Moore plays Elisabeth Sparkle, a famous aerobics act who faces a blow on her 50th birthday when her boss fires her. In the midst of her anguish, a lab offers her a substance that promises to transform her into an improved version of herself.

Elisabeth must split her time evenly between her current self and her new, younger body played by Qualley, spending a week in each body. Elisabeth is warned: "The only thing to remember: you are one. You can’t run away from yourself."

Plot details and theatrical release date

Things soon get out of hand as Sue says that "the balance doesn’t work," while Elisabeth reports a "slight abuse" of the drug.

The film is accompanied by a note stating: "Have you ever dreamed of a better version of yourself? You should try this new product: The Substance. It changed my life." The note continues: "With The Substance, you can create another version of yourself, younger, more beautiful, more perfect… Just share the time. One week for one, one week for the other. A perfect balance of seven days. Easy, isn’t it? If you respect the balance… what could possibly go wrong?"

The film was written and directed by Coralie Fargeat, who previously helmed the 2017 action thriller Vendetta. The Substance will be released in theaters on September 20. The trailer report was written by Joey Fear for Geek Tyrant and published by Lloyd Grunewald on The Fashion Vibes.
