Director Christopher Nolan's new film The Odyssey has grossed over $1 billion at the box office, according to publication Deadline. The picture collected $429.7 million in domestic box office in the United States and $570.3 million across international markets.
The adaptation of Homer's poem is expected to become Nolan's highest-grossing film. Forecasts indicate the movie will soon surpass the comic book adaptation The Dark Knight Rises, which earned $1.085 billion.
International Box Office Earnings
According to the source, the largest international markets for Nolan's project were Great Britain and Ireland at $75.3 million, France at $52.4 million, Italy at $46.9 million, Germany at $35.2 million, Australia at $29.8 million, and Mexico at $28 million, alongside several other countries. In Russia, the film is showing in cinemas as part of pre-session service.
The theatrical run for the film is far from over. The movie opened in Korea on August 5, with upcoming release dates set for China on August 14 and Japan on September 11. In North America over the upcoming weekend, The Odyssey will share premium IMAX screens with another box office giant, Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day.
