Video game creator Hideo Kojima praised director Christopher Nolan's film The Odyssey after traveling to the United States to watch the movie in 70mm IMAX format. Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding video game series, shared his review of the film on social network X.
Kojima said watching the movie was an amazing experience and that he is ready to rewatch it. He noted that despite the large screen, Nolan's close-ups captured actor emotions, fine details, and character fates. Kojima added that the lack of Japanese subtitles was perhaps for the best because he knew the plot structure from watching the 1954 adaptation starring Kirk Douglas and black and white versions in his childhood.
Screenings and cast
Kojima said Nolan's signature style of crossing timelines and the performance of the star cast elevated the classic epic poem into a human drama. He noted that although the film will also screen in IMAX in Japan, he will likely return for screenings in the United States several more times.
The Odyssey released in global box office on July 17 and tells an epic story based on the work by ancient Greek poet Homer. The Departed and The Martian star Matt Damon plays the main character, alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal.
