Celine Dion arrives in Paris for major comeback concerts

Celine Dion arrived in Paris on Friday to prepare for her upcoming concert residency at the Plenitude Arena, marking her return to regular live performances following her diagnosis with Stiff-Person Syndrome.

The 58-year-old Canadian singer is scheduled to perform 16 concerts across September and October, with the opening show set for September 12. An additional 10 performances will follow in May 2027 as part of her Celine Dion Paris 2026-2027 concert series.

Dozens of journalists and fans gathered outside her hotel in the French capital to greet her arrival. Dion smiled, blew kisses, and formed hearts with her hands as members of the crowd shouted that they were happy to see her return to the stage.

Speaking to French national news channel BFMTV, Dion stated that she feels ready for her comeback but acknowledged feeling somewhat anxious due to the long period away from a regular concert schedule. She described Paris as her second home, adding that she has felt the support of the French audience from the moment she arrived.

The upcoming residency at the Plenitude Arena, located in the western suburbs of Paris, will feature songs from both her English-language and French-language catalogue. Dion is keeping the choice of her opening song a secret.

Training and recovery from Stiff-Person Syndrome

The residency carries special significance following the severe health challenges that forced Dion away from touring for years. In 2022, the singer revealed that she had been diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. The condition affects the central nervous system, causing severe muscle stiffness and painful muscle spasms, which previously forced the cancellation of her Courage World Tour.

To prepare for her return to live performance, Dion maintains a rigorous physical training routine. Her preparation includes 90-minute Pilates sessions three times a week and ballet lessons twice a week. Dion has spoken openly about her health, explaining that she prefers to describe her condition as an evolving condition rather than a disease.

Dion offered fans a preliminary sign of her return in the summer of 2024 with a performance during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games. Standing on the Eiffel Tower in heavy rain, she sang Hymne à l'amour, a classic French ballad originally made famous by Edith Piaf, in a performance broadcast to millions worldwide.

Global success and Paris concert schedule

While that Olympic appearance was a brief and isolated performance, her upcoming residency presents a much larger test, requiring full concert sets before thousands of spectators. Dion remains one of the most successful pop music artists in history, with nearly 260 million record sales worldwide. Over her multi-decade career, she achieved global renown with iconic hits such as My Heart Will Go On from the film Titanic.

The Celine Dion Paris 2026-2027 schedule begins with her 16 autumn shows in September and October before pausing ahead of her final 10 scheduled appearances in May 2027. For the singer and her audience, the long-awaited return to the Parisian stage represents a second beginning.
