Sam Worthington revealed that he was on the verge of playing James Bond when producer Barbara Broccoli oversaw the film in 2005.

The 46-year-old actor, who currently plays Avatar, lost the coveted role to Daniel Craig after failing his screen test.

Speaking to Variety, Sam recalled the time he flew from New York, where he lived, to London for his audition and even had Barbara cut his hair in his hotel room.

But it turns out he is did not agree with their view of the spy and “had no idea what he was doing”.

Sam told the publication: “I could play Bond as a killer, but I’ve never been able to come out of myself in my life. The suit didn’t fit.

“I had no idea what I was doing.”

Barbra instead chose Daniel Craig, whose replacement will be announced in March, and Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as frontrunners.

Sam starred in Avatar the highly anticipated second film, Avatar: The Way of Water, which was a success theater last week.

The actor, who reprises his role as Jake Sully in the sequel, recently announced that they have already filmed most of Avatar 3.

Avatar: The Way of Water – which James Cameron recently admitted will need $2 billion to break even – will lead into Avatar 3, which is expected to hit theaters on December 20, 2024.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sam said that between 80% and 90% of Avatar 3 has already been made into a movie.

“We filmed about 80%, 90% of three. We still have a few scenes left,” he explained, eliciting a few shouts from those present.

He added that some scenes have already been filmed for Avatar 4 simply because they involve children who are too old to wait.

“And in Four we did some scenes because the kids got older, so we got to do it before they got a little bit older,” Sam explained.

When asked what he thought of the sequel, he said, “The first one blows it away.”
