Zoe Saldana clarified her comments about being “stuck” in sci-fi franchise movies.
The 44-year-old actress recently lamented how roles in Avatar, Star Trek and the Marvel Cinematic Universe limited her creativity, but now retracts her comments.
On Monday, the Avatar: The Way of Water star attended the Los Angeles premiere of the highly anticipated film and spoke with reporters.
She said she was grateful to have been given the opportunity to work on big blockbusters. “I want to get things right,” she told Deadline at the premiere of the Avatar sequel. “I am grateful and feel like the luckiest girl in this city knowing that I have been invited to be a part of films with special directors in a special cast,” she said.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunities they’ve given me, from working with great directors and meeting cast members I consider friends, and playing a role that fans, especially kids, love.
“But it also meant that I felt artistically trapped in my art, unable to expand, grow or challenge myself by playing different kinds of genres and different roles.”
Zoe also told Deadline this week that she finds it difficult to juggle her franchise responsibilities with children.
She has twins Cy and Bowie, eight, and Zen, six, with husband Marco Perego.

“Because maybe there’s a common thread, maybe there’s something we all have in common, knowing what it’s like to be an outsider and growing up feeling like you don’t fit in and finding that space that created a blank canvas on which you do the unthinkable.’
She continued, “And the fact that they saw me, a little girl from Queens, and I can do these things for them, I can only be so grateful if they keep calling me back.”
