The 54-member Board met on Friday morning after a fierce debate among its 9,000 members in hundreds of WhatsApp groups over the past 12 days.

The coup divided Hollywood and the public, with some insisting that his Oscar be taken away and not rewarded for violence, while others told him to reject it and make fun of him on social media.

He later won the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Richard Williams in King Richard. He used his speech to apologize to Academy and Rock and later posted an apology on Instagram.

Chris kept quiet about it and spoke only to say that he had “processed” what had happened.
