Celebrity promissory note: Kate Hudson shows up to spruce up the backyard for future mother-in-law Melissa Linehan

Kate Hudson flexed her muscles as she helped spruce up the backyard for her future mother-in-law Melissa Linehan on Monday’s episode of Celebrity IOU.

The 43-year-old actress hired the Property Brothers, twins Drew and Jonathan Scott, to help improve Melissa’s garden, where the grandmother known as “Moo moo” spends time gardening.

“I am forever indebted to Melissa, Moo moo, and I love her very much. I hope every time she comes here and sits in her garden, she will be reminded of how much she is held and loved,” said Kate, who announced her engagement to Melissa’s son Danny Fujikawa, 36, in September 2021.

After Kate surprised Melissa with Drew and Jonathan, she got up early and shot back through a door in the garden, knocking him to the ground.

“That’s because Kurt Russell is my father. He’s an action hero,” Kate said, referring to her 71-year-old actor father.

Kate showed up for the demolition on day one, ready to get her hands dirty.

“Demo is like a bucket list thing. I’ve always wanted to turn something around,” Kate told the camera.

“Kate came to stop this demolition on its head,” said Drew.

The actress pulled a line as she pulled down a patio canopy with the twins.

‘I love it. It was great,” Kate said afterwards.

Kate also showed off her strength by carrying cinder blocks in each hand.

“Are you doing two at once?” asked Drew.

“I can deadlift 100 pounds,” Kate told him.

“Kate is clearly working out because she has some muscles,” Jonathan told the camera.

Kate also helped cut undergrowth with a chainsaw, swing a sledgehammer and tear down walls.

Kate also helped with design elements and choice of finishes as she sought a Southern French vibe for Melissa.

The boys called Kate while she was filming to get her thoughts on outdoor lighting options.

Kate returned for the big reveal to help with the finishing touches and was joined by her four-year-old daughter Rani.

They came up with a melody when they planted parsley and sang it together.

Melissa stayed at Kate’s house during the six-week renovation project, and Kate drove her home after it was complete.

Eyes closed as Kate led her into the garden, she was pleasantly surprised by the renovations, which included new access to a backyard patio, a new bocce ball court and a renovated shed for art projects with her grandchildren.

Danny accompanied Kate and his mother to the unveiling along with his brother Michael.

“This garden will enable the life I want to live,” said Melissa, who was excited about the renovation.
