The 7th annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards revealed the winners at a glitzy event broadcast live from New York City. It was Amazon Studios Good night Oppie It was the night’s biggest winner, taking home five trophies, including the night’s top award – Gold for Best Documentary.
Good night Oppie also made Ryan White a winner for Best Director, Best Score went to Blake Neely, Best Narration (written by Helen Kearns and Ryan White, performed by Angela Bassett) and Best Science/Nature Documentary.
The Critics Choice Documentary Awards recognize the year’s best performance in documentaries released in cinemas, television and major digital platforms, as determined by voting by qualified members of the Critics Choice Association (CCA).
Christopher Campbell, co-chair of the Critics Choice Association Documentary Division, said: “Tonight was a brand new Doc Awards ceremony – held at a new, larger venue in Manhattan and streamed live for the first time. We are delighted to continue celebrating so many ground-breaking and thought-provoking films, while also highlighting the work of so many brilliant filmmakers.”
The star-studded event, hosted by Wyatt Cenac, featured presenters and attendees including Rob McElhenney, Idina Menzel, Jeremy Sisto, Paul Shaffer, Brett Morgen, Kathy Ireland, Reginald Hudlin, Richard Kind, Reginald Hudlin, Soledad O’Brien and Tonya Lewis Lee, Tamara Tunie, Ryan White, Erich Bergen, Andrew Jarecki, Shoshana Bean and Willie Colon.
