The ratings of the MTV Video Music Awards are up 3% from last year

Maybe it was Lizo’s performance, or Nicki Minaj’s betrayal. Either way, the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards saw a decent gain over last year’s broadcast.

MTV reports that the three-hour awards show has grown in viewership, key screenings and minutes consumed (TMC): + 14% from last year to 1.59 billion versus 1.4 billion, according to Nielsen Fast Nationals.

The show averaged 3.9 million viewers overnight, up 3% (3.7 million) from last year. It also increased by 4% between the ages of 18-34 (2.24 versus 2.16), by 1% between the ages of 18-49 (2.81 versus 2.78) and by 5% between the ages of 25 and 54. years (3.13 vs.3).

MTV also claims that VMAs were the # 1 social broadcast of the year with over 40 million interactions, surpassing the Super Bowl and Oscars.

Minaj won the Video Vanguard Award, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers won the Global Icon Award. Video of the year went to Taylor Swift and Artist of the Year went to Bad Bunny. Harry Styles won the Best Album award and Lizzo won the Video for Good award.
