The summer poses in the Marivent Palace is a tradition in the Spanish royal family. Located next to the cliff of Cala Major in Palma de Mallorca, there are many secrets that hide the walls, and the long list of illustrious people who have crossed the doors.
Marivent means “sea and wind”, a name that pays tribute to the palace’s surroundings. Built between 1923 and 1925has become the favorite place of Queen Sofia, who now enjoys the summer there with her three children and four of her grandchildren.
It was in 1973 when the Provincial Council of the Balearic Islands decided to cede the Marivent Palace to the then Princes of Spain, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, so that they could use it as summer residence. Since then, the endless list of family poses includes some images as shown below.
It was in 1975 when the first pictures of the Spanish royal family were taken in their new summer residence. In the beginning, they were much more natural poses than those that would appear in later years. Doña Sofia and her three children carried yellow pants and navy blue polowhile Don Juan Carlos opted for a polo shirt of the same color but combined with jeans.
One of the most anticipated visits was undoubtedly that of Charles and Diana of Wales along with their two sons, Harry and William. In this endearing image, we see the Prince of England take his son Harry in his arms to mount him on the dog, under the watchful eye of his brother William. While we see Lady Di smiling and seemingly happy, the confessions she made to her friend and journalist, Andrew Morton, were heartbreaking. “Everyone was obsessed that Carlos was the most beautiful creature in the world. And who is the girl who goes with him? I knew I had something in me that I didn’t show them and I didn’t know how to use it, I knew not how to teach them. I felt very uncomfortableDiana explained after returning to London.
The following summer, Carlos and Diana returned to Mallorca with their children. In addition to posing in the Marivent Palace, the family took advantage of these summer days to enjoy the beaches of Mallorca.
In 1990 we see the whole family home posing for photographers. At that time, neither the infantas nor the current king had a partner, so the inns were much smaller.
Six years later we saw Jaime de Marichalar poses in Marivent along with the rest of the family. A year earlier, the infanta Elena and her ex-husband had said ‘yes, I want’ in the Cathedral of Seville. That same year, the infanta would meet Cristina Iñaki Urdangarin.
This pose in Marivent is very similar to the previous year, it is the last in which the Infanta Cristina would pose without her ex-husband, the Duke of Palma.
The center of attention in the 1998 posado was the infanta Elena and Jaime de Marichalar’s first child, little Froilán, who first grandson of Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofia.
One of the few perched in the Marivent Palace where we see? the whole family.
That same year, there was a visit from the then President of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who received by King Juan Carlos I.
The Obamas visited Mallorca 12 years ago.
With what outfits much more informalwe see the first pose of Letizia and Felipe as kings of Spain with their two daughters, the Infanta Sofía and Princess Leonor.
Last year 2018 we saw the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, together with his wife, Begoña Gómezpose in the Marivent Palace with Don Felipe and Doña Letizia.
