The rock musician known for his alcohol and drug abuse says in his new book that he first became religious as a child when he was confirmed and always felt safe with this knowledge.
Rock musician Pete Doherty said he was ready to join a church and serve the Lord.
The star, known for her years of drunkenness and drug addiction, thinks she can be a man of God.
Doherty, 43, said, “It’s genuine to me. I like going to church, singing for God, just trying to get an idea of the importance of the Bible.
“It’s something that always fills my heart with I don’t know what, the glory of God, really, to feel that I could do something as a servant of the Lord, instead of trying to present myself as someone to worship.
“I always thought I could go to church; I think I would have been happy to do it. I am a great supporter of the community and faith, it is something that really attracts me.
“I think about it a lot: giving life to service. It never really worked, but it’s something I’d like to pursue, even now I feel like I can.
In his new book, A Likely Lad, Doherty said he first became religious as a child when he was confirmed at the age of 12.
He explained, “My mom said you don’t unless you really believe it, and I really felt God’s presence.
“I took the vows, the oath: you ask Jesus and the Holy Spirit to enter your heart, and I remember that I felt it really strongly.

“Years later, when I was not a committed Christian and did not often feel the presence of Jesus in my heart, I still remembered a time when I had felt it and felt really sure of this knowledge.
“Evangelical is not the right word, but it is the closest word that comes to my mind to describe the feeling of the presence of God or the presence of the spirit. They put me right at the end of the chorus, because I was terribly out of tune ”.
Doherty also said he believed he would follow in the footsteps of his father, also called Peter, and become a soldier.
He said, “I always thought I was going to join the army and go to war somewhere. This is what I thought I expected.
“I would like to become a soldier and die in a foreign country. It seemed a little heroic. It was the flag and the idea of being English that was always there for all the brats in the army. I guess it was just this desire to be English, to be in England, this desire to have an identity. “
