Dan Walker may be replaced on BBC Breakfast by his new Channel 5 co-star Julian Druker.

Dan left the BBC permanently last month and switched to 5 News, which he presents alongside Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije. Since then, the BBC has considered various candidates to replace him.

One such is Channel 5 reporter Julian Druker, a BBC source confirmed exclusively to, with whom Dan appeared last week (June 10).

Julian was at the London High Court to discuss plans to send refugees to Rwanda, which did not happen on Tuesday 14 June.

Dan asked Julian, “Goodnight, what’s going on?”

The clip later shows Dan in the studio wondering, “And Julian, was there any other opposition to the plans?”

Julian was absolutely professional when he replied: “Yes, Labor leader Keir Starmer described it today as ‘chaotic entertainment’, he said it wasn’t meant to be, he says ministers here should sit at the table of ministers in France .. . “.

But our BBC source said Julian may be interested in Dan’s old job with his salary skyrocketing £ 100,000 three days a week.

They said that while BBC star Jon Kay appears to be a favorite, there are still other names in the mix.

“Jon Kay is hugely popular in the newsroom, but the process to replace Dan is still ongoing and it looks like it’s a few weeks away. They certainly haven’t done the interviews yet.

“Obviously there were a lot of applications (because it was advertised externally).

“They are looking for a ‘new’ person, so names like Jermaine Jenas and Gethin [Jones] apparently they got out.

“Someone saw a list that included insiders like Jon Kay, Ben Thompson and other names like ITV Granada’s Gamal Fahnbulleh, GMB’s Sean Fletcher, Channel 5 News’s Julian Druker and GB News’s Stephen Dixon.”

But among the changes to the morning show, there is apparently “turbulence” behind the scenes as Jon Kay looks set to take on the role with a “hasty” decision.

Our source added: “While everyone thinks Jon Kay is the apparent heir to Dan’s work, there has been concern that the ‘header’ image from the official BBC Breakfast Twitter account has changed in the past. last few days. (while the trial is still ongoing) to include Jon as one of the main four stars.

“Maybe that’s fair enough, as he’s been in the ‘family’ for months, but some BBC folks are still vying for the job and they feel it’s already been decided.

“Some of these candidates also wonder if the program leaders could have waited a few more weeks before doing so.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
