Hollywood star Chris Evans hit conservative countries for refusing to screen his new movie Lightyear because it features a gay kiss between two of the characters.
Chris Evans responded after Lightyear was banned by Disney Pixar in some countries for depicting a same-sex relationship.
The animated film has become a controversial topic in several Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, due to a kissing scene.
Hollywood hunk Chris, who plays Buzz Lightyear in the film, called the powers behind countries “idiots”, as he admitted to feeling there will always be people who are “afraid” to step forward in life.
Speaking to Reuters, he said: “The truth is these people are idiots.
“Whenever there has been a social turning point in awakening, American history, human history is characterized by constant awakening and social growth and that’s what makes us good.”
“There will always be people who are afraid and don’t realize it and will try to hold on to what happened before.”
Chris, 41, later explained that he thought the best position was to ignore the views of anyone who still avoided inclusion.
He continued: “I think the point is to ignore it, move on and embrace the growth that makes us human.
“It’s hard not to get a little frustrated because it also has to be a talking point. The goal is that we can get to a point where this is the norm, and that it doesn’t have to be uncharted territory, which ultimately is. “
Lightyear, who was classified as PG by Western regulators, broke the rules in many conservative countries as they confirmed the film would not be showing.
On June 13, the UAE Media Regulatory Bureau confirmed his position in a statement posted via Twitter.
It said: “The office confirms that all films shown in theaters across the country are subject to screening and evaluation prior to the public screening date, to ensure the safety of the content released according to the appropriate age rating.”
Lightyear’s scene, in which Alisha Hawthorne, played by Orange Is the New Black actor Uzo Aduba, embraces another female character, was cut from the film at the beginning due to activity on the “Don’t Say” bill. Florida “gay”.
