Kanye West urged Adidas CEO to “come and see” after the musician criticized the brand for producing shoes that resemble its Yeezy collections.
Kanye West accused the Adidas sportswear brand of producing a shoe design similar to the one he made for his line, Yeezy.
The rapper, who was married to Kim Kardashian, took to Instagram to share a now-deleted post complaining about the alleged counterfeit design.
The 45-year-old accused Adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted of “copying” the style: “For Kasper, I no longer agree with this blatant copy. […] It’s for anyone who wants to express themselves but feels they can’t do it because they’ll lose their contract or be called crazy. “
The musician, who legally changed his name to Ye last year, said that courage is “not being afraid” but rather “overcoming fear for your truth”.
He then moved directly to the design of the shoe in question, the new Adidas Adilette 22 slide, of which he inserted an image.
The sliders feature a thick platform foam sole, with a thick band that arches over the foot to keep it in place.
The simple and elegant design has a carved toe and features the brand slogan, “the three-stripe branding,” along the side of the sole in black text.
They come in a sandy beige color and feature textured ridges throughout, resembling a rocky landscape.
The brand said the shoes were inspired by “3D topography and human expeditions to Mars,” but Kanye believes the inspiration actually comes from his shoe line.
He continued: “These shoes represent the disrespect people in power have for talent. This shoe is a fake Yeezy made by Adidas themselves.
He then urged the CEO to “come and talk to him”.
Kanye was in a similar situation earlier in June 2021 when he sued Walmart over the same issue.
He accused them of sacrificing the “popularity” of Yeezy models after a $ 35 duplicate for his Yeezy Foam Runner shoe was sold on Walmart’s website.
The rapper’s lawyers say Walmart has released an “unauthorized exact copy” of the Foam Runner shoe.
Lawyers also told Walmart that Kanye, whose Yeezy brand is “worth billions”, “is a pioneer in everything it touches.”
