The film “Gone Girl” by David Fincher, recorded according to the bestseller with the same name Gillian Flynn, was not only one of the most discussed thrillers of the years 2010, but also raises questions, especially.
How did the film “disappear”, why do the heroes make such strange decisions and how does the final of the film adjustment of the original novel differ? We disassemble the points – with all the important spoilers.
What happens in the final
The second half of the film turns everything upside down: it becomes clear that Amy has not disappeared, but has performed a kidnapping to take revenge on her husband. After her original plan has collapsed, she kills her former lover Daisy and houses her return – bloody, reportedly saved from captivity. For the public it looks like a triumphal return from the victim. In the eyes of the police, all Nick’s charges were removed.

Amy’s house admits Nick that she killed Desi to return. Nick threatens to leave, but Amy reminds him that this will destroy his reputation. Without blaming her, he will not be able to prove anything. Everything is complicated when Amy explains that she is pregnant. Nick, who realizes that this is the only chance to be near the child, decides to stay. On television they act as a few that a child expects. Nick is even trapped.
Why doesn’t Nick leave
The official reason is the child. Nick wants to participate in his life, and given the public opinion and reputation of Amy as a “national heroine”, he has a practically no chance of getting custody. But in the film there are other, less obvious motifs: Nick loves the feeling of the game, he feels that they actually look very similar to Amy: both are lying and destroying life. No matter how he hated her, he himself is not perfect.
In a conversation with his sister, Nick says immediately:
“I can’t let her go. Only she makes me so. I will never be happy with a normal girl.”
The meaning is easy to read: he knows with whom he is and still remains – maybe that’s why.
Why Amy returns
The main issue of the audience is why Amy generally returns to Nick when he hates him so much that he was ready to replace under the death penalty?
The answer is in narcissism and the desire for the ideal “game”. Amy sees how Nick on television converts and portrays Amy that he can again believe in this illusion. This is the same nickname in which she fell in love – a charm that plays a role. They both like to play. Amy realizes that he will now not only be able to control it through public opinion, but also by the unborn child.
Why Amy Daisy kills
Initially, Desie was not accepted at all in Amy’s plans, but after she had stolen money, she turns to him for help. In the Daisie house she is constantly under control: video surveillance, insulation, tries to bring it back to the previous image. Then Amy decides to organize that he kidnapped, raped and held her. So that nobody can refute her version, she eliminates Daisy and imitates self -defense – all with deliberately demonstrative cruelty. This explains her return and allows you to get all the bonuses of the image of “survival”.
How the end of the “disappeared” differs from the book
The script of the film was written by Gillian Flynn himself, so the adjustment turned out to be very close to the original, but there are still different differences:
- Amy Desi does not kill during sex in the book, but after he had poured sleeping pills.
- Nick does not fit with television, but writes a book to give Amy.
- Pregnancy is not public.
- Daisy’s mother has serious suspicions and she accuses Amy openly.
- The book ends with a scene in which Amy asks why Nick is friendly for her, and he answers: “Because I feel sorry for you. You wake up every day – and you are you.” This sentence Amy clearly beats the routine and leaves the final open.
