So far, Superman has been released – the first film of the new DC Studios era – his director and partly head of the Studio James Gann is already making plans for international expansion.

In a new interview, he confirmed that the DC seriously is considering the possibility of introducing an Indian superhero in the withheld cinema. The idea is not abstract: the studio is already looking for Indian directors and partners not to make the project “About India”, but made in the country, with its actors, cinema and cultural optics.

Gann did not hide that the eastern cinema is not only a tribute to fashion for him, but personal inspiration:

“Bollywood films and Eastern cinema are generally very important to me as a storyteller. These paintings are not afraid to be dramatic, funny and musical at the same time. This is their strength.”

India plans are part of a broader strategy. As the director himself confirmed, DC has already launched various projects in development, the action of which will take place in:

  • Korea
  • Japan
  • Brazil

Against this background, India looks like the next logical stop. Gann immediately said that he sees the heroes ‘all over the world’ and not just wants the Americans to tell their stories. The most important thing is to find those who are really interested in working in the DC universe, and not just making a formal “international branch”.

When and how exactly the first Indian superhero will appear – so far the question is open. But it is precisely the fact that the head of the DC calls publicly and deliberately Indian authors on board, suggests that radical shifts are waiting for the cinematic union. And it seems that Batmen and Superman will not only appear on the screen in the coming years, but also characters far beyond the borders of the United States.
