Boss Blumhouse explained why Megan 2.0 failed at the cash register: Superman is the fault of everything

While the Killer Doll “Megan” hardly continues to collect some money at the cash register, the head of Blumhouse Bloom takes part in the podcasts and explains what went wrong. And he does this with such a pathos, as if it is not a failed horror franchise, but about the fate of humanity.

In the new edition of the podcast, the city of Bloom said that if Megan 2.0 failed … Superman. No specific film, not James Gann, but the image itself. According to him, the makers in Megan saw an analogue of the pop cultural superhero and believed that everything could be done with her and everything would work. Not rolled.

This is how Bloom has formulated this itself:

“We all thought that Megan is like a superman. We can do everything we want with her: change the genre, release the film in the summer, change the visual style, change a villain in a heroine. And we overestimated how many people were attached to her.”

The first film “Megan” was a complete horror. The sequel tried to play in the genre permutation according to the example of “Terminator 2”, where the horror story converted into action with a human face. But if Cameron did this, then here – no. Bloom admitted that the audience was not ready for such a turn.

“Every sequel is a minefield. If you make a film that looks too much like the first, the audience says:” You just copied everything, why did you need it completely? “If it’s too different -” and what does this have to do with the first part?

The failure of “Megan 2.0” is not even a matter of reviews. The film has a cinemascore “B+” rating, which is even higher than the original (“B”). The audience on rotten tomatoes (now is the popcorn meter) was also friendly – 83% against the previous 78%. The problem is different: the audience just didn’t go to the cinema.

The figures confirm this:

  • Budget “Megan 2.0”: $ 25 million
  • Tools for the first weekend in the US.: 10.2 million
  • Current position in the cash register: 4th place
  • World costs at the moment: 18.1 million
  • To go to zero, you have to collect: about 62.5 million

For comparison: the original Megan started with 30.4 million and completed the rent with a result of 181.8 million dollars. But the sequel, despite good reviews, is still self -confident in the ‘Financial Falling of the Year’ category. And no superman here, in reality, will no longer help.
