Nowadays, the prologue of the Brotherhood of the Ring is a cult scene that fans remind us of his head.
Seven minutes of pure exposure told by the voice of Kate Blanchett on behalf of Galadriel, started the standard of how the viewer could immerse in a fictional world long ago. The irony is that this scene could not be at all. Moreover, Peter Jackson doubted the last whether the prologue was needed at all and literally added it to the last turn – already in the final phase of the film.
In the original books of Tolkien there are no large -scale introductions. The history of the ring, the war of the last Union and the artifacts dumped by Sauron is hidden in the applications, and the trilogy itself starts with a calm description of Shir and preparing for Bilbo’s birthday. In the cinema, such a call would work weak – especially for the viewer, not familiar with LOR. That is why the new line studio was on the prolon, even if she asked not to make it for more than two minutes. Jackson gave seven – and he wanted to lower the stage through irony. They convinced him to leave as it is – producers.

To make all this work, Jackson came up with a simple but effective schedule: he built a prologue as a mini film. He has a tie, climax and even a plot twist. And the most important “character” of the scene is not a guil-galad and not sauron, but a ring of omnipotence. In the middle – the path he had made: from creation to the moment when it is with the Hobbit.
The final installation only includes the most important points that are linked to the fate of the ring. I had to throw a lot:
- The death of Guil-Galad and his battle alongside Elendil are not shown;
- Brother Isildur – Anarion is not mentioned;
- The Battle of the Last Union in reality was ten years, and the last siege – seven, but this all remained behind the scenes;
- Narsil’s sword in the book breaks when Elendil falls, and not because of Sauron’s blow;
- The expression “the world changed” did not belong to the original, not galadriel, but to Fangorn (Treeboborod).
The narrator also changed: In the beginning Jackson wanted to entrust the orders of Gandalf or Frodo, but changed thoughts – the characters did not participate in these events. As a result, Galadriel was chosen – as a symbol of wisdom, memory and “timelessness” of elves.
