Lionsgate Studio decided not to pull long – only three weeks have passed since the premiere of the “Ballerina” in the cinema, and the film is already available in the song.
Such a speed usually does not happen when we talk about success. Apparently everything became clear fairly quickly: the first spin-off by John Wick Universe did not justify hope.
From 1 July the “Ballerina” can be purchased or rented at digital locations, including PVOD. So far this is not a complete release with streaming, but the course is characteristic: Lionsgate clearly tries to ward off part of the costs as quickly as possible. According to official figures, the film has raised around 105 million dollars with a budget of 90 – taking into account the costs of advertisements, this is a complete failure.
On paper everything looked promising: Ana de Armas, the director of the “other world” Len Wizman, producer support from Chad Stahelski and the plot “John Wick 3” in the Canon of the Universe. According to the conspiracy, a heroine called Yves is trained in the organization of the Russian Roma, where the PEC itself once grew up. They promised spectacular choreography, personal drama, episodes with Kean Reeves and hit the continuation.
Critics were generally not against – 76% on rotten tomatoes. According to Popcornmeter, spectators were generally excited: 93%. But at the same time the audience just didn’t go to the cinema. In the summer, competition is furious and the interest in the world of Wick without Wick himself was lower than they had hoped.
Nobody has officially announced the sequel, but the director in an interview with Entertainment Weekly has already shivered that the story could continue. There are, they say, ideas about the mother’s mother, and about secondary characters who can get more screen time. Based on the hasty digital release, Lionsgate is not thinking of continuation now, but about how to recapture the costs and no longer remember it.
