The new Pixar cartoon failed at the cash register, but according to the studio they are not a script, no marketing and no competitors. The audience is the culprit. It was such a message – albeit in a veiled form – appeared this week in the official Pixar account.
Elio is an original story about a boy who accidentally falls into the center of intergalactic diplomacy. Neither the sequel nor the franchise, nor the old IP is a rarity for modern Pixar. The cartoon was released with minimal competition, but in the beginning he showed the worst costs in the history of the studio.

For a company that recently earned hundreds of millions in cartoons such as “History of Toys”, “Up” and “Ratatui”, this is a painful blow – and Pixar decided to respond publicly in a very strange way.
In the Studio account in social networks, a video appeared in which the blogger argues:
“You always complain that there are no original stories in the cinema. And when they appear, you won’t go there.”
The video ends with a direct call to support Elio, while he is still in the cinema.
Translated from marketing to Russian – the studio openly accuses the audience of indifference. They did not want to look – they themselves are to blame for the original film to die.
However, the audience did not stay in debt. Cracking like:
“Maybe you are just starting to photograph good original cartoons?” Or “It is so cute to blame the public when you don’t know how to advertise your own cartoon.”
Elio started 2 weeks ago at the cash register and so far in the Piggy Bank of the Box Office on the cartoon only $ 56 million. Against the background of a budget of 150 million – this is a complete failure.
