Karl Stefanovic says he was ‘always aware’ of people who publicly recorded him after Ubergate

Karl Stefanovic and his brother Peter got involved in an ugly conversation behind an Uber in March 2018.

Featured on A Successful Night Podcast with Gus Worland this week, 47-year-old Karl explained that he is always aware of people recording their conversations, no matter how drunk they are, at a bar or even at people’s homes.

Karl also admitted that the loudspeaker recording of the driver was “pretty traumatic” for his 40-year-old brother.

Asked by Gus if he had checked to see if Ubergate was on speaker afterward, Karl began to explain how devastating the results were for his brother Peter.

‘Do you know me guess what… God, it was pretty traumatic for my brother, that stuff. “We’re probably talking three or four times a day, we’re very close,” he said.

“It had to be something that was nothing. But that’s a sign of how far below the pump we are. Who would have thought he would become an Uber driver? [would have recorded our chat]’ he continued, laughing. “How unhappy can you be?”

The Today show host went on to explain that he was still “speaking freely” even though he knew it was being recorded.

‘I speak freely, I am what I am. I’m aware… I’ve been to bars and stuff and people are recording conversations. “I’ve been to people’s homes and they’re recording conversations,” he said.

Karl said he was “always aware of what’s going on” no matter how drunk he was.

Bond Close: When Gus was asked if he was checking to see if he was on speaker after Ubergate, Karl went on to explain how devastating the consequences were for his brother Peter. “God, that stuff was pretty traumatic for my brother. We probably talk three or four times a day,” she said.

“It’s a … sign, for whatever reason, people will use access to people in the public domain, and that’s another thing to know, that’s all,” he said.

In March 2018, an Uber driver carrying Peter disclosed the details of the TV reporter’s conversation with Karl over the loudspeaker.

After the driver sold his story to the revised New Idea, he revealed during the private conversation that Karl had criticized former Today co-host, 52-year-old Georgie Gardner.

Shocking Confession: Karl went on to explain that he still “spoke freely” despite knowing he was registered. “I’ve been to bars and stuff and people are recording conversations. I’ve been to people’s homes and they’re recording conversations,” he said.

“She said she didn’t have enough ideas and wanted her to take action,” the driver told the magazine at the time.

“He actually looked pissed off and said he was going to push hard and if he wanted to stay on the show he had to.”

According to the unnamed pilot, Karl also accused Channel Nine bosses of not interacting with the public.
