Good Morning Britain fans couldn’t believe their eyes when host Richard Madeley produced a small bottle of water to show a terrified family how much water their relative will receive in an Iraqi prison.

British geologist Jim Fitton, 66, was arrested in Iraq for collecting 12 stones and pieces of broken pottery on a recent geological and archaeological tour of the country, which he insists he was told he could do.

Fitton insisted he had no idea he was breaking the country’s laws.

And his devastated family, desperate for his release, admitted on the show that they heard the news yesterday from a reporter and were still in shock when Richard began questioning them.

But it was when he pulled out a bottle of water to demonstrate how much water Mr. Fitton will receive per day that the onlookers at home had to put their disbelief on hold.

While Jim’s daughter and son-in-law chatted with the hosts via video link, Richard said, “I don’t want to upset you further, but we know conditions in Iraqi prisons are terrible in general.

“¡Una de las estadísticas que salió a la luz es horrible! Esto es lo que la Organización Mundial de la Salud says that an average adult needs beber in términos de agua todos los días ”, she says, señalando a large bottle that he tenía en el bureau.

“Every 24 hours we need at least two liters”.

Pulling out a bottle of water next to him, Richard continued: “And that’s all a prisoner gets on a regular basis during that 24 hour period. They give him bottles of 250 milliliters, that’s what they give him “.

Then he asked, “Do you have more detailed knowledge of the type of conditions in which it was held?

It was then that Fitton’s family admitted: “We have no idea where it will end up at this point. He was taken back to a detention cell at the airport and told he would be transferred to a general population prison within 10 days. “

As for Twitter, a fan said: “Madeley, at GMB, speaking to the family of an archaeologist imprisoned in Iraq says ‘I don’t want to bother you anymore, but conditions in Iraqi prisons are horrendous’ and then holds a bottle of water saying that it’s all they get on a daily basis What a tool.

“Richard Madeley does a water bottle show and tells the distraught girl about the [Iraqi] the prisoner was a pure partridge, ”someone else said.

A third fan got mad: “How well did they fit into Richard Madeley’s water bottle show and story with a distraught girl? Really!”

As another put it: “Richard Madeley is scaring the family with a bottle of water, show and tell!”

Calling it “horrible TV to watch”, someone else posted: “Exactly. I was horrified, so I don’t know how the poor family feels. I was definitely making the news to scare them.”
