Bon Jovi was “heartbroken” after the tragic death of the band’s first bass player, Alec John Such.

The band – Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, Tico Torres, Phil X and Hugh McDonald – announced the musician’s death in a heartwarming statement on Instagram.

He said: “We are heartbroken to hear the news of our dear friend Alec John Such.

“It was an original. As a founding member of Bon Jovi, Alec was an integral part of the group’s formation.

“To be honest, we found our way through him – he was a childhood friend of Tico’s and he took Richie to see us play.

“Alec has always been wild and full of life. Today, these special memories make me smile and bring tears to my eyes. We will miss him very much. “

Born in 1951, Alec had originally played in a previous band with former Bon Jovi star Richie Sambora.

In 1983 he was one of the founding members of the rock band, joining such hits as You Give Love A Bad Name, Livin ‘On A Prayer and Wanted Dead Or Alive.

However, 11 years later, in 1994, he went his own way.

Fans showed up en masse to pay their respects after the sad news.

“I can’t believe it … flying high,” one person posted on Instagram, while another said it was “heartbreaking”.
