The writer prepared a much crueler fate for the most hated character.
Long before Game of Thrones became a true cultural phenomenon on modern television, George RR Martin was hard at work on what would become the basis of the show, the A Song of Ice and Fire book series. The writer has repeatedly admitted that he changed a lot during the process, and that some ideas naturally faded over time – such as Martin’s confidence that ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ would end with the third book.
However, some ideas that the writer later rejected could have caused great joy among Game of Thrones fans – for example, one of them is still discussed on the Internet years later.

In 1993, Martin said in one of his letters that he planned to kill the main villain of the entire series, Joffrey Baratheon, in a completely different way – in a duel with Robb Stark.
The story then spread across social media, causing a wave of outrage among fans who, oddly enough, would have been much happier to see Joffrey die at the hands of Robb – especially after Joffrey played a key role in Ned Stark’s execution.
Anyway, the character didn’t torment viewers for long with his bitchy nature – Joffrey was poisoned during his own wedding to Sansa Stark.
George Martin had other plans for Robb Stark himself – the latter, according to the writer’s original idea, was not killed at the Red Wedding, but continued to fight the Lannisters until he died during one of the battles.
