Have they changed for the better, or are they now non-canon?

Few adaptations can boast of bringing every detail from the book to the screen. If this were the case, it would hardly be possible to watch such a film adaptation – after all, literature and film are too different for that. However, die-hard fans of George RR Martin’s literary universe have noticed how much House of the Dragon changes many of the characters from the original books.

We have collected 10 characters that are completely different in “House of the Dragon” from those in the book “Fire and Blood”.

Perhaps one of the most significant changes House of the Dragon has made to George RR Martin’s canon is the deepening of Alicent and Rhaenyra’s relationship. From the first season, the story revolved around them: from their youth they are shown as friends whose friendship does not seem to withstand the numerous royal intrigues and attempts to secure the most advantageous position at court.

However, the chemistry between Rhaenyra and Alicent that results from this change is something fans are more excited about than sad about. It reveals the conflict of the Dance of Dragons much more deeply, showing that this is not just another civil war (albeit one that changed the history of House Targaryen forever), but a human family tragedy.

These two can hardly be called friends or enemies: their roles change from episode to episode. And the end of the second season generally broke the hearts of many fans. Now we just have to wait for the third season – traditionally this could take up to two years.
